January until April
Waving to everyone passing by

Said it’s been a good season so far
Paul should know
It’s his fourth time out

He’s only been hit with:
Five drinks
Four eggs
Half a sandwich and
A melted ice cream cone

Just one dog bit his ankle

He’s been called a loser twice
A prick thrice
And a sore upon humanity
Only once

Made some friends too

Social gatherings
Huddled on the street
Au fait upon the screen
Everyone ganging up
So as not to feel alone/afraid
Hitting “like”
Yelling “fuck you”

Little groups of this and that
Celebrities with fans
Average people reaching out
Trying to connect

Hoping to end the silence
Seeping through their pores
While everyone claims happiness
From an iPhone
With touchscreen capabilities

My own hand
Reaching out to touch right back
But only finding

A scattered trail of dust
Coming through a forlorn window
Illuminated by the cold sun

Which melts into a bitter moon

Just before the clock strikes midnight
And the truth of existence

Is undeniable
